The school’s SEND policy plays a substantial role in guiding the school’s developing provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities.

CONTEXT 
The Accessibility Plan addresses the statutory requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Code of Practice of September 2014. These acts place a responsibility on the Governing Board to ensure that the school is socially and academically inclusive. In particular, the Equality Act requires the school to develop a plan to show how it will develop services in the following three areas: 
 • To increase the extent to which disabled students can participate in the school's curriculum.
 • Where possible to improve the physical environment of the school to ensure disabled students are able to take advantage of education and other benefits, facilities or services provided or offered by the school. 
 • To improve the delivery of information to disabled students, so information is as available as it is for students who are not disabled.

AIM OF PLAN 
All students will have access to appropriate qualifications and will develop the skills and resilience to meet the demands of working, family and community life. Students will demonstrate the empathy and confidence to work with others to achieve a better future.

Y.O.U.R Beauty School (YBS) is dedicated to providing high-quality, inclusive, and tailored education aimed at re-engaging students and supporting their journey towards employment, training, or further education. With locations in both Lewisham and Greenwich, YBS is committed to broadening access to learning and expanding opportunities for young people across London.
YBS offers fully recognised and accredited Beauty Therapy and English and Maths Functional Skills courses.
Courses run throughout the year and are led by highly qualified and experienced tutors. Additionally, we offer recruitment advice and assistance to all our students.
The aim of YBS is to re-engage its students into education and facilitate progression to employment, training, or further education. Admission will be through the referral process outlined in this policy. Referrals may be made at any time throughout the year.

YBS operates across two locations with differing capacity limits to ensure a high standard of education and support is maintained. The allocation of placements is managed as follows:
 • Lewisham Borough Location: 30 placements available per session
 • Greenwich Borough Location: 12 placements available per session

Placements are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis following the referral process. Where demand exceeds availability, priority will be given based on the criteria outlined in the 'Criteria for Oversubscription' section.

Our provision will provide up to 18 hours of education weekly on a part-time basis for students aged 13-19.

Our code of conduct reflects the DFE guidance in particular “Preventing and tackling bullying” DFE 4th July 2017, which provides new additional information about how schools can support children and young people who are being bullied. Staffing and advice for schools (DFE, 2021) which is designed to help employers in all schools with staffing and employment issues, and also to inform their decision making. It also reflects the guidance for keeping children safe in education (DFE, 2021) which states that we at YBS must have regard when carrying out our duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of the young people in our care.

Anti Bullying Policy

INTRODUCTION
The aim of this policy is to provide clear guidance to staff, parents/carers, and students on strategies to prevent, reduce, and respond to bullying. It also covers how we work with both victims and perpetrators. Bullying behaviour directly contradicts our core values of respecting others and the IB Learner traits of being Principled, Caring, Open-Minded, and Balanced. Therefore, firm action will always be taken against incidents of bullying.

Bullying in all its forms can cause significant distress, affecting students’ well-being, behaviour, academic, and social development, with long-lasting effects into adulthood.

There is no single legal definition of bullying, but it is generally characterised by repeated behaviour intended to harm either physically or emotionally, often rooted in prejudice, and typically involves an imbalance of power. Forms of bullying can include: teasing, social exclusion, physical assault, name-calling, cyberbullying, threatening behaviour, and any form of taunts, graffiti, or gestures targeting race, culture, religion, gender, sexuality, or other characteristics. Child-on-child abuse may also fall under this policy, as detailed in our Safeguarding Policy, where behaviours escalate into unwanted sexual contact or sexually abusive comments.

At YBS, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and caring environment where bullying is not tolerated. All bullying incidents must be reported immediately.

Bullying can occur both during and outside of setting hours, and often takes subtle forms that are difficult for outsiders to perceive. Bullying between YBS students outside of school hours will still be addressed by the setting.

Staff will undergo induction training through our Preventing Bullying course, with ongoing support and training throughout the year to ensure sensitivity to the needs of all students, including those on the SEN register and from the LGBTQ+ community.

Assessment and Internal Verification
Assessment and Internal verification are major aspects of quality assurance that relates to day to day delivery and assessment of all qualifications through YBS. Assessment is an on-going process and is supplemented with Internal Verification that ensures that assessment decisions are consistently accurate and at the appropriate standard. The Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) is a key person in ensuring that when certification is claimed for a candidate, it reliably marks the achievement of National Standards. This is a policy which applies to all appropriate VTCT learning programmes that are offered through YBS.

Assessment Policy and Procedure 
An assessment can be of a student’s knowledge, understanding, abilities or skills. The school uses three types of assessment: initial or diagnostic, formative and summative.   
1. Initial or Diagnostic assessment determines the preparedness of a student for achieving the learning outcomes of a course or unit. 
2. Formative assessment measures a student’s progress towards achieving the learning outcomes of a course or unit.  
3. Summative assessment measures the degree to which a student has achieved the learning outcomes of a course or unit.  
4. External assessment is a form of assessment in which question papers, assignments and tasks are specified by VTCT, then taken at the centre under specified conditions (including details of supervision and duration). Marking and external moderation judgements are made by VTCT.

Positive modelling, both verbally and non-verbally, by all YBS staff is key to this.

This policy is intended to ensure that personal information is dealt with correctly and securely and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, and other related legislation. RATIONALE
Our uniform policy reflects our values and reinforces our school’s culture of high expectations and academic achievement. All pupils must dress according to the Uniform Policy. By wearing the full school uniform, students at YBS demonstrate visually that they belong to the school community. Their uniform is a symbol of equality, school identity. Smartness and high standards of appearance are expected at all times, both inside and outside of the school premises.

EXPECTATIONS
 • Every member of the school community should be clear about the uniform requirements and fully committed to operating within this policy. 
 • Every student makes a commitment that when they put on their YBS uniform they will abide by the rules of the school. 
 • Every parent/carer has a responsibility to ensure that their child has a full school uniform and wears it correctly each day. We ask that parents/carers support all decisions by the school staff regarding whether or not clothing is appropriate or inappropriate for school.
 • Every member of staff has a responsibility to check students’ uniforms, intervening in the case of any infringement and ensuring that it is rectified
