  • Accessibility Plan
INTRODUCTION YBS is a diverse and inclusive school that focuses on the wellbeing and progress of every student and staff. We value diversity and seek to give everyone in the school an equal chance to learn. Our guiding principle is to identify and break down possible barriers to learning so that all students ‘achieve their very best’. YBS will be a centre of excellence in learning, where all students, including those with disabilities, are supported and challenged to fulfil high ambitions. The school’s SEND policy plays a substantial role in guiding the school’s developing provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities. CONTEXT The Accessibility Plan addresses the statutory requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Code of Practice of September 2014. These acts place a responsibility on the Governing Board to ensure that the school is socially and academically inclusive. In particular, the Equality Act requires the school to develop a plan to show how it will develop services in the following three areas: To increase the extent to which disabled students can participate in the school's curriculum. Where possible to improve the physical environment of the school to ensure disabled students are able to take advantage of education and other benefits, facilities or services provided or offered by the school. To improve the delivery of information to disabled students, so information is as available as it is for students who are not disabled. AIM OF PLAN All students will have access to appropriate qualifications and will develop the skills and resilience to meet the demands of working, family and community life. Students will demonstrate the empathy and confidence to work with others to achieve a better future. Read more....

  • Anti Bullying Policy
The aim of this policy is to provide a working document giving clear guidance to staff, parents/carers and students on strategies to prevent, reduce and respond to bullying, as well as how to work with the victims and perpetrators. Bullying behaviour goes against our core value of respecting others and the IB Learner traits of being Principled, Caring, Open Minded and Balanced. As such, firm action will always be taken against incidences of bullying. Bullying in all its forms can cause high levels of distress, affecting young people’s well-being, behaviour, academic and social development right through into adulthood. There is no legal definition of bullying, however it is usually defined as behaviour that is: Repeated, intended to hurt either physically or emotionally, often based on prejudice of some kind and includes an imbalance of power. It takes many forms and can include: Teasing, social exclusion, physical assault, name calling, cyber-bullying, threatening behaviour. It also includes taunts, graffiti or gestures that are focused on race, culture, religion, gender, sexuality. child on child abuse - see the schoo’sl Safeguarding Policy for when matters have gone beyond poor behaviour and into unwanted sexual contact or sexually abusive comments. We are committed to protect all members of our school community from being bullied by providing a safe, supportive, caring environment. We are committed to creating a climate where bullying behaviour is not accepted by any member of our school community and is reported immediately. It can occur during or outside school time. Many acts can be subtle and difficult for an outsider to perceive. When bullying occurs between YBS students outside of school time, the school will still intervene. Staff at YBS will undergo training on induction to the school via high speed training online Preventing Bullying Course. Throughout the year the staff will receive ongoing training to help them be sensitive to the needs of specific students, e.g. those on the SEN register or from the LGBT community. A key message for staff to communicate is that dismissing actions as ‘Banter’, or ‘Just a joke’ is unacceptable and not in keeping with our school values. Bullying is the wilful, conscious desire to hurt, threaten or frighten someone, usually repeated over time. Anti-bullying is when everyone in the school understands that bullying is unacceptable. EVERYONE has a part to play in order to stop bullying. We will not have NO bullying of any kind. We will always take incidents of bullying seriously. Bullying can be from an individual, or from a group. At YBS, we encourage respect for others through the use of good manners, acceptance of differences and having the ability to work alongside all people. We encourage good behaviour and respect for everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion or belief. The message of YBS school community cohesion will be reinforced through one on one talks with students, guest speakers, focus days, posters and peer mentoring as appropriate. Alongside this educational approach, the School will ensure the following initiatives are also in place: A zero tolerance Policy in the School with clear sanctions that are understood by students and parents (See behaviour policy) Staff will praise and encourage students when they show kindness and consideration to others Active supervision of students during unstructured times. We are a school that does not tolerate bullying. This means that anyone who is aware of bullying should report it immediately to the Head of schools and also the DSL/DDSL, who will meet within the appropriate staff and all individuals involved to ascertain the events. The incident will be noted down and the parents will be informed as appropriate. The wider faculty will be informed and the necessary support is then put in place. Bullying incidents are often more complex than a simple Victim / Perpetrator division. Each case will be dealt with consistently whilst considering the specific circumstances involved. We are committed to listening to students, parents/carers and staff who report issues of bullying and to investigate their concerns most seriously. Read more...
  • Assessment Policy
Assessment and Internal Verification Assessment and Internal verification are major aspects of quality assurance that relates to day to day delivery and assessment of all qualifications through YBS. Assessment is an on-going process and is supplemented with Internal Verification that ensures that assessment decisions are consistently accurate and at the appropriate standard. The Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) is a key person in ensuring that when certification is claimed for a candidate, it reliably marks the achievement of National Standards. This is a policy which applies to all appropriate VTCT learning programmes that are offered through YBS. Assessment Policy and Procedure An assessment can be of a student’s knowledge, understanding, abilities or skills. The school uses three types of assessment: initial or diagnostic, formative and summative. Initial or Diagnostic assessment determines the preparedness of a student for achieving the learning outcomes of a course or unit. Formative assessment measures a student’s progress towards achieving the learning outcomes of a course or unit. Summative assessment measures the degree to which a student has achieved the learning outcomes of a course or unit. External assessment is a form of assessment in which question papers, assignments and tasks are specified by VTCT, then taken at the centre under specified conditions (including details of supervision and duration). Marking and external moderation judgements are made by VTCT. Read more...
