About the course
This Hair and Beauty qualification has been specifically designed to develop practical skills through introducing learners to the hair and beauty industries and how they should present a professional image in the salon.
To further enhance practical skills, they will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of hair and beauty units where learners will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of each unit.
The purpose of this qualification is to develop skills in both hair and beauty and will provide learners with the foundation for further learning. It will also enable them to perform their own services and to assist others in the salon.
Learners attending two days per week or more will also have the opportunity to complete additional accredited qualifications, including the VTCT Skills for Work qualification and the Open Awards Principles of Business Start-up qualification.
These additional courses are designed to help students develop employability, confidence, communication, and introductory business skills alongside their hair and beauty training, supporting progression into further education, employment, or self-employment.

Shampoo and conditioning
Skin care
Basic make-up application
Nail art application
The art of photographic make-up
Create a hair and beauty image
Providing basic manicure treatment
Providing basic pedicure treatment
Salon reception duties
Follow health and safety in the salon
Working with others in the hair and beauty sector
Create and maintain retail displays in the salon
Learners will receive a VTCT accredited qualification recognised across the world.
This qualification is designed to use the context of hairdressing and beauty therapy as a vehicle to support learners to develop broad and comprehensive understanding of the sector and related industries but, more importantly, of core academic knowledge and study skills that will support progression into post-16 and higher education.
Specifically the qualification will prepare learners to progress onto qualifications related to the hair and beauty sector.
Qualifications & experience?
No linked qualification or work experience required. Minimum of two days attendance.
